Andy Sun

Andy Sun is Associate Professor (with tenure) and holds the inaugural Iberdrola-Avangrid Professorship in the Sloan School of Management and MIT Energy Initiative, MIT.

Dr. Sun is interested in building new bridges between the theory of optimization under uncertainty, distributed optimization, convexification of nonconvex structures, and control of dynamical systems, and in developing fundamental understanding and new analytical tools for renewable energy integration, power grid optimization, and stability and resiliency of interconnected energy systems and transportation systems.

Dr. Sun obtained his B.E. in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing (senior thesis on quantum computing using Josephson junction qubits), M.S. in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT (analog computation and analog integrated circuit design), and a doctoral degree in Operations Research (robust optimization and convex optimization) from MIT. After PhD, Dr. Sun did a one-year postdoc at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.
