Ranjan Pal, PhD (in Computer Science), is a Research Scientist at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a cybersecurity expert who broadly conducts and leads a team<\/a> of graduate and undergraduate students on cyber risk and resilience management research<\/a> through the Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan (CAMS) consortium. He uses the interplay of computer science, decision science, and operations research to solve research problems. Ranjan is also currently an invited member of the systems cyber resilience working group (WG)<\/em> at the World Economic Forum <\/em>contributing his expert insights on solving the most important societal challenges on cyber resilience—<\/span>some insights reaching the White House. <\/p>\n

Among other things, Ranjan pioneered the field of mathematical models adjudicating the market sustainability of cyber-insurance solutions. <\/em>He has acted as strategic cyber risk management advisor to corporations and has been an invited expert on government research review panels in science and technology. Ranjan has published\/contributed to nearly 100 research articles<\/a> in academic, policy, and thought leadership in business outlets that include <\/em>journal and conference proceedings, industry white papers, World Economic Forum<\/em> reports<\/em>, Forbes, The Financial Times, The Economic Times, The Financial Express<\/em>, Re-InAsia<\/em>, and The Times of India.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ranjan has been an invited speaker<\/a> in nearly 50 venues around the globe, and has held visiting scholar and faculty positions at leading business and technology institutes of the world.  These include the University of Michigan, University of Cambridge, Princeton University, Indian School of Business, King's College London, Tsinghua University, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and the All India Institute of Medical Science. Ranjan has been honored with multiple 'Best Paper Award' nominations from premier conferences on his research on cyber risk management; is an associate editor of the ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems;<\/em> and serves on the Technical Program Committees of the Winter Simulation Conference and the ACM SIGSIM PADS Conference. <\/p>\n

In his spare time, Ranjan is a trained Vedic astrologer (Jyotishi<\/em>) and research scholar, through his family tradition. He is the author of Navamsa: A Practical Treatise in Prediction<\/em><\/a>, (an Amazon bestseller), Does Rahu Give Spiritual Ethos: An Argumentative Analysis in<\/em> Jyotish,<\/a> (an Amazon bestseller) and Rahu and Spirituality: A Triveni of Parashari, Nakshatra, and Nadi Astrology<\/em><\/a>. Ranjan is formally and personally trained by the brilliant and renowned Richa Shukla, equivalent of the Jyotish Alankar<\/em> and Jyotish Acharya<\/em> degrees for professional Vedic astrology. Richa has been a student of the world-renowned astrology legend Shri K. N. Rao via Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan<\/em> Delhi. Ranjan also studies Vedanta philosophy.<\/p> <\/div>\n <\/div>

World Economic Forum Spotlight<\/h2>

I am an invited member of the World Economic Forum's working group on cyber resilience as an area expert. As part of this group, I co-contribute ideas <\/strong>of socio-economic impact along with globally leading academics, corporate leaders, and researchers in the domain of cyber resilience. We have contributed to (a) a request from the US White House on harmonizing cybersecurity regulations<\/a> (the contributions reaching the White House), (b) the global interoperability of cyber regulations in the electricity sector<\/a>, (c) important principles boosting cyber resilience in industrial environments<\/a>, and (d) practical insights to make digital supply chains resilient<\/a>. Together, the cyber resilience working group colleagues generate ideas and insights to make the critical digital enterprise ecosystem secure and resilient.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
