It was developed to provide tools for members of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.mit.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">MIT\u00a0<\/a>community\u2014as well as other communities that resemble MIT in that they are workplaces or schools and they aspire for their diversity to be a source of strength.\u00a0 Another goal is what the co-hosts\u2014the MIT sociologists and management professors\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mitmgmtfaculty.mit.edu\/rreagans\/\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">Ray Reagans<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mitsloan.mit.edu\/faculty\/directory\/ezra-w-zuckerman-sivan\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">Ezra Zuckerman Sivan<\/a>-- like to call \u201cdelight in discovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ray and Ezra are quite open and frank about the difficulties that MIT and other universities have faced in realizing this aspiration, with a particular focus on the challenges that emerged in the fall of 2023 when community members from two distinct communities\u2014those with a \u201cnatural affinity\u201d with one of the two sides of the war that began on 10\/7 (many Jews and Israelis, many Middle Easterners and North Africans, especially Palestinians)\u2014felt unsupported at time of great need.<\/p>\n<p>Yet while Ray and Ezra\u2019s conversations are meant to help address a pain point, they are also designed to be playful and inspiring. The playfulness is intellectual\u2014the fun of wrestling with puzzles about the world and excitedly considering novel insights; but it\u2019s also personal\u2014the kind of teasing and poking at one another that good friends do. Ray and Ezra believe that the \u201coutsider-insider\u201d relationship they model are both rewarding and achievable for many people.
